Our History of Inspiring Children

Spaceship Classroom

The American Sci-Tech is the culmination of many years of inspiration and effort. Floyd Holt, who was then a physics teacher in Hyde Park, NY, wanted to give his students much more than the standard program. In 1995, during a distinguished career spanning 40 years in public schools and colleges, he and his students created the world’s first Spaceship Classroom.

The creation of the first prototype

This classroom soon took on new dimensions and grew beyond the walls of the school. The first Spaceship Discovery Science museum was greeted with enthusiasm and excitement by all who visited. Subsequently, the Phase II museum hosted 60,000 visitors from 2002 to 2004. Local educational, social, and business entities embraced it as “interactive,” “real world,” “tactile,” “mentally stimulating,” “brilliant,” and “entertaining.”

Awards and Other Recognitions

As a result of his innovative efforts, Floyd Holt was inducted into the National Teachers Hall of Fame in 2006. Other significant recognitions he has earned include being named a Walt Disney American Teacher in Science for the United States; a Princeton Woodrow Wilson National Fellow; a Physics Teacher Resource Agent for the United States; a Rutgers University National Master Teacher; a Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Master Teacher in Science; and member of the All-USA Teacher Team for the United States.
